CHARLOTTE — Property managers for at least one condominium complex is telling its residents that DNC tenants are not allowed.

Jarrett Tran is the property manager of 5th and Poplar Condominiums. Tran said it is against HOA rules to temporarily rent out condo space for less than 30 days; such as the week of the Democratic National Convention.

According to Tran, the rules are intended to protect the property.

“It reflects a different use of the property and one where someone is running a business. A lot of lenders don't want to lend to properties that are being used as a hotel and condo,” said Tran.

Tran said despite the rules, a few residents are making their properties available online. He said decease and desist notices have been sent to online property posting websites to have those listings removed. Any residents who violate the rule could be fined daily.
