It's become "The Stadium That Must Not Be Named."

You know the one. You really can't miss it in Charlotte's skyline. It's where the Carolina Panthers play. It's also has the name of a local bank plastered everywhere.

Which bank? You know the one: NOT Wells Fargo. Yeah, that one.

But if you're a Democrat, don't you dare utter the name, least ye bring a pestilence upon your party.

The lengths the Democratic National Convention is going to avoid naming Bank of America Stadium in press releases and other official convention literature is getting rather silly.

First, it was Panthers Stadium, now it's just "the stadium," according to an email sent out under the name of DNC Chairman Antonio Villaraigosa.

I know the politics behind it: The Democrats don't like the visual of President Barack Obama delivering his acceptance speech in a forum named for a bank he's publicly railed against during the Great Recession.

We get it. No, really, we do.

But it's also like an actor refusing to say the name of William Shakespeare's play about a Scottish king who kills to gain the throne inside a theater. It's a long-lived superstition in theater circles that "The Scottish Play" is cursed , but to not even whisper the name of the play on the stage is silly.

And it's just downright silly for the Democrats to pretend the stadium where the Panthers play doesn't have a name.

We all get that sports arenas are named for corporations because corporations pay a lot of money for the naming rights. We're all used to it. Sports fans don't really care what the stadium their favorite team plays is named, just as long as they get to see their team play.

By purposefully avoiding using the proper name of the stadium brings negative attention and ridicule. This is what the Democrats pay their PR people to do? Where's the benefit?

Are you going to lose voters because the Bank of America logo is on the side of the building where the president will speak? I doubt it.

But I bet the Democrats won't refuse all the campaign contributions Bank of America is donating.

This is a no-brainer, folks. Call the building what it's called and be done with it.

Of course, it's never that simple. This is, after all, American politics, where absurdity is elevated to epic proportions.

Just for kicks, though, I think when I get to Charlotte, I may walk onto the field and yell, "MACBETH!" just to see what happens.
