CHARLOTTE — The November election is about four months away and both presidential campaigns are ramping up in the fight to win North Carolina.

President Barack Obama won the state by only 14,000 votes in 2008 and recent polls show the contest is neck and neck in the Tar Heel state. Both of the campaigns are bulking up their ground game and operations down the final stretch of the 2012 election.

"We have an enthused and engaged volunteer core, we're going to be knocking on doors and phone banking, doing everything we can to promote Mitt Romney," said NC GOP communications director Rob Lockwood.

"We've done thousands of events on the ground there to get people registered phone banks, door knocks, and we are seeing great enthusiasm," said Obama for America spokesperson Stephanie Cutter.

On Saturday the Romney Campaign will open four new offices in North Carolina, bringing the total to seven. The Obama campaign currently has 16 such offices in operation across the state.
