CHARLOTTE -- Billingsville Elementary is one of 150 schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.

It's home to hundreds of students and principal who is loyal to the area. She's also a principal who's had her fair share of leadership.

"In the 22 years I have been here, I think it's about 4 superintendents that I have worked under," said Principal Arlene Harris.

Soon Harris and the rest of the district will welcome new superintendent Heath Morrison. He's a leader who said he's on a mission to restore public trust.

"When you talk to people who either go to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools or have kids at a school, I think they recognize the positives but there are some concerns," said Heath Morrison.

Friday, Morrison made his fourth stop to the Queen City since being hired as the district's new superintendent. During his last visit in May, Morrison met with the board of education to outline his entry plan.

However, for this trip, he's focused on employee morale.

"Overall I think there has been a feeling of a lack of involvement in decision making and I think that is easily addressed but you have to be proactive about that and that's what I intend to do," said Morrison.

"He actually said he's going to meet with the principals individually one-on-one so that he can really find out what the district needs," said Harris.

Morrison met with a small group of principals from the district. He told them despite possible budget shortfalls, raises are at the top of his priority list.

"Budgets are a matter of priorities and I've always said that and our highest priority is raises and my trust and confidence is that is the direction that we are going to go,"said Morrison.

The incoming school superintendent says he knows he's fighting an uphill battle but he told staff members he's confident in the district and has no plans to fix what's not broken.

Morrison also plans to interview three people for open CMS cabinet positions during the trip and visit two area churches.
