LEXINGTON -- Before the flag drops at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca Cola 600, fans warmed up their wheels, with what else, a nice glass of wine.

Richard Childress Racing and Childress Vineyards hosted a full day of events for fans on Friday.

"With Charlotte, the way the format is, they close the track on Friday and it gives all the race teams, the fans that come into town early for a long weekend, it gives them something to do, places to go," said Richard Childress, President and CEO of Richard Childress Racing.

It's the first time the vineyard has hosted the fan day event, but Childress said it's certainly the start of a new tradition.

"We had people from Sweden, Canada all over today and it's really neat to see how involved the fans get from around the world and the local fans," said Childress.

The event included autograph opportunities, tours of the vineyard, wine tasting and music.
