GOLDSBORO -- Many eyes are on the Wayne County Board of Elections as it counts its provisional ballots, after a state representative announced, he'll ask for a recount.
State Rep. Stephen LaRoque, a Republican who represents the 10th District, said he'll ask for a recount after the primary election results showed he lost to challenger John Bell.
Once these provisional votes are counted and the official canvass is complete, the state can give Wayne County instructions on how to go forward with the recount, which will include the areas effected, Greene Lenoir and Wayne Counties.
And elections board officials said it's well equipped and prepared.
"I think it's just to reassure the candidate and to make sure our numbers are correct. There are instances where, with all of us being human, it can be off one or two votes, and sometimes one or two votes makes a difference,” said Michael Berry, with the Wayne County Board of Elections.
Tuesday is the official canvass, when the board of elections will release the numbers.
LaRoque has two business days after Tuesday to officially ask for a recount.
