WASHINGTON -- Thursday, a long awaited federal security grant for next year's Democratic National Convention was passed by both houses of Congress.

The $50 million grant to the City of Charlotte will provide funding for security and the cover the costs for hundreds of additional police officers who'll be staffed in the Queen City for the convention.

City leaders also expect the money will help out in covering some transportation logistics. Congress also passed the same amount for Republican National Convention in Tampa.

President Obama is expected to quickly sign the bill into law.
