State, county budget cuts could impact student services at Gaston College
Gaston College could be facing big budget cuts later this month. School officials said they're bracing themselves for reductions, not only on the state level, but on the county level as well. If funding is cut, it could result in reducing services to students.

Holshouser remembered as a servant of bi-partisan efforts
Former Gov. Jim Holshouser, North Carolina's first Republican governor in the 20th Century, died Monday. He was 78. As governor he sought to increase foreign trade, develop a modern transportation system and called for educational and parks improvements.

NC NAACP protest ends with more than 80 arrests
More than 80 people are facing criminal charges after the seventh week of protests led by the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP. The NAACP focused its near-weekly demonstrations Monday on environmental and health policies in the Republican-controlled General Assembly.

NC Democrats, chairman reach complaint settlement
The state party released a signed settlement agreement Monday settling an internal complaint last month filed against Chairman Randy Voller. The complaint accused Voller of exceeding his authority by dismissing the executive director and appointing several donors to a party governing board.

Chinese business leaders visit Charlotte on economic trip
Business and political leaders from China are visiting the Queen City this week as part of a cultural exchange. The trip underscores a growing economic relationship between China and North Carolina. NC hotels may be required to furnish carbon monoxide detectors
Out of the hundreds of hotels and thousands of hotel rooms in Charlotte, Charlotte Area Hotel Association Executive Director Sid Smith said it's a guessing game to know which ones have carbon monoxide detectors. Smith said many if not most hotels have detectors installed in hotel rooms with heavy machinery.
