CHAPEL HILL – Thursday was a special day at the North Carolina Children's Hospital. Hospital officials held the annual Children's Promise fundraising celebration to raise money to help very sick children from all across the state.

The hospital is designed specifically to treat children, which means it must be different than other hospitals.

Donations

To make a donation or to check the progress of the fundraising event, visit the N.C. Children's Promise Web site.

“Children require specific equipment. We can't use adult equipment,” said Carolyn Donohue, associate vice president of the N.C. Children's Hospital.

The staff also works hard to make the hospital less scary for children and as fun as possible by using various toys throughout the hospital. But those things don't come cheap.

“It costs a lot of money to give specialized care for very sick patients,” Donohue said.

So every year, people give money to help keep the children's hospital on the cutting edge of care.

Last year, the Children's Promise celebration raised $1 million for the hospital. Organizers are still tallying this year's donations.
