NEW YORK — The Dow Jones Industrial Average passed its record high and kept on going Tuesday.

It jumped from the opening bell, climbed as much as 158 points early and reached 14,268, breaking through its previous record high set in October 2007.

That previous record was set five and a half years ago, before the start of a frightening drop that erased $11 trillion from stock portfolios.
