CONCORD -- U.S. Marshals said one of their agents shot and killed an armed fugitive Monday morning who was wanted on several charges.
Officers said at about 6:45 a.m., U.S. Marshals, FBI agents and Cabarrus County deputies responded to a home on Freedom Street to arrest Anthony Meeks for violating his probation.
When they walked up to the house, they saw Meeks in a window armed with a handgun. Investigators said they exchanged gunfire with Meeks. He died at the scene.
U.S. Marshals said Meeks also had outstanding warrants for armed robbery assault and drug violations. The FBI and State Bureau of Investigation are still working on the case.
