CHARLOTTE — Reuters reported late Friday afternoon a merger between US Airways and American Airlines could be just weeks away.

The business outlet cited sources who said valuation and management structure were the only major sticking points left to finalize. A combined US Airways/American Airlines would be the world's largest carrier.

Charlotte is currently US Airways' largest hub airport. Reuters reports the board of American's parent company, AMR, will meet next week to discuss the merger but neither airline commented Friday.
