CHARLOTTE--An east Charlotte man who was the victim of an alleged home invasion has a message for his neighbors.

According to police reports, it happened Friday night at the Villa East apartment complex off of Village Lake Drive.

“This is where they had me, right here,” explained victim Douglas Johnson.

Douglas Johnson said Friday night took him completely by surprise.

"It's upsetting. It hurts. My pride is hurt. I've never been robbed before," said Johnson.

Around 11:00 p.m., Johnson said he heard a knock at his door.

Johnson lives in the Villa East apartment complex off of Village Lake Drive, a community he said is quiet and filled with friendly neighbors.

"When the knock came at the door, I thought it was them," said Johnson.

But he said he opened the door without hesitation, only to find two men he said were wearing masks and holding a gun.

According to Johnson, the men forced their way in.

"They put the gun to my head and pointed me to the ground and told me to get on the ground," said Johnson.

Johnson said the men were strangers to him, but may have known a recent acquaintance.

He said he wasn't scared for his life but more shocked that this was happening in his neighborhood.

"Once they forced me into my room, I was just in disbelief still. My nature is to fight back and I kept wanting to get up and the guy hit me in the head with a gun," said Johnson.

Johnson now has 20 stitches and four staples in his head.

He said the suspects got away with his TV, wallet and jewelry. But Johnson is hoping the message is not about what was lost but that he was caught off guard.

He wants his neighbors to take note.

"Lock your doors and just be aware. Although the night is going good or everybody's having fun, whatever the case my be, still stay behind that peep hole," said Johnson.

The case is under investigation by CMPD. Police said no arrests have been made at this time.
