Road closures begin for 'First Night Charlotte'

CHARLOTTE--Thousands are expected to ring in the New Year in uptown Charlotte and preparations are underway for the celebrations.
The Levine Avenue of the Arts, between Church and Tryon streets is the first street to close for First Night Charlotte. That is scheduled to be shut down at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
This closure along the Levine Avenue stretch is slated to re-open on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
On Sunday at 6:00 p.m., Tryon Street, between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Stonewall Street will be closed until 3:00 a.m. on January 1.
The crown drop highlights the night, welcoming the New Year and also turning the calendar page will be an alert Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police force looking to keep things within reason, as celebrations go through the night.
Activities around in uptown will be throughout the day on Monday to close out the year.
The big finish will be located at the Duke Energy main stage on Monday night, starting at 10:00 p.m.
