Randy Parton looks to Halifax County for music complex

(ELIZABETH CITY) - A musical entertainment complex headed by Randy Parton may be headed to Halifax County.

The brother of country music star Dolly Parton, who himself is a country and gospel performer, has been shopping for a site for a proposed music theater in northeastern North Carolina since last fall.

A Raleigh-based attorney for Parton told The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City last week that his client is working with Roanoke Rapids officials to bring an entertainment complex there.

Last week, the Daily Herald of Roanoke Rapids reported that local officials were considering a proposed entertainment park. The newspaper says the plan includes a music theater complex that could be under construction as early as June and host performances by May 2006.

In January, an economic developer said Parton believed that six counties in rural northeastern North Carolina could be home to up to 20 music theaters within a decade.
