CHARLOTTE -- The Rev. Billy Graham is preparing for a technological crusade in his own backyard. The North Carolina native has preached all around the world and now wants to celebrate his 95th birthday by going into the homes of thousands of Americans.
"I've been praying we might have a spiritual awakening," Graham said in a newly-released video.
In the video, Graham talks about his latest evangelical efforts to bring religion into our homes.
"My hope has been used in many countries," he said.
The 94-year-old is talking about the "My Hope" campaign. In 10 years, the campaign reached 57 countries on every continent. It has, however, never reached the United States.
"He wants to preach the good news of Jesus Christ across America using technology with homes being the venues where it happens," said Preston Parrish, vice president of the campaign.
The Billy Graham Evangelical Association will spend the next 11 months recruiting and training thousands of volunteers, who will go into homes across America for the nationally-televised event November 2013.
"It's going to be a tremendous time for evangelism. It's going to climax on my 95th birthday," said Graham.
Organizers say this could be his final chance to preach to his home country.
"In a very real sense, because he is nearing his 95th birthday, this might be his final call to America to trust in God," said Parrish.
Despite a couple of health problems earlier this year, Graham is reportedly doing well and is taping new segments at his home in Montreat, specifically for this event.
"Mr. Graham believes God had a purpose for keeping him here and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ is what drives him and energizes him on a daily basis," said Parrish.
Even though the "My Hope" campaign is still nearly a year away, they're going to start training in a couple of weeks at the BGEA headquarters.
