CHARLOTTE—On Tuesday afternoon, a long awaited final report as well as recommendations on the controversial 2011 Mecklenburg County property revaluation will be released from an independent review company.

Thousands of homeowners demanded a review when the revaluation caused many property tax bills to skyrocket. For months, Pearson's appraisal service has studied revaluation samples in dozens of neighborhoods across Mecklenburg County.

A preliminary report revealed 75 percent of the homes reviewed with the highest land value increase had flaws, including 40 percent determined major and 35 percent minor.
In response to the findings, at the Mecklenburg County Commission meeting Tuesday night, County Manager Harry Jones will ask commissioners to allow him to hire a company to rework all the neighborhoods with major appraisal flaws.

If approved, that process is expected to take more than a year.
