The Batmobile is coming back to Gotham. Designed by comic book icon Jim Lee, this Batman-inspired Optima grew from a partnership between Kia Motors and DC Entertainment and will be unveiled to coincide with the New York Comic Con in Midtown.

"As an artist, you can do a terrific drawing of man on a rooftop, but until you put that bat logo on him and draw those pointy ears, people just don't care too much about it. But once you do that, people's eyes light up and they have this instant nostalgic attachment to what you're drawing," says Lee. "So when you look at this and you see the bat logo, which is fairly large but subtle at the same time, and obviously this front grill, which is beautiful."

An illustration of Batman by Lee graces the back windshield, some prop "batarangs" are inside the center console, and perhaps the coolest feature, the headlights are actually little bat signals.

While this Batmobile is one-of-a-kind, developers say there are seven other superhero-inspired cars in the works: Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Cyborg and then an all-encompassing DC Universe car.

"We did this not only to make cool cars and do this cool partnership but also to benefit and raise awareness for the We Can Be Heroes campaign, which goes to fight the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa," says Lee.

The cars will be unveiled one by one at auto shows and other Comic Cons throughout the country over the next 10 months, after which they will be auctioned off to benefit We Can Be Heroes.
