ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.--As Sandy continues to churn in the Atlantic and make her way sway up the Eastern Seaboard, people around the coast are getting ready.

“You never want to be complacent with weather. It's always changing, it has the option to move east or west, slow down, speed up. Be prepared, it's the best thing to do,” said boater Lou Hadoc.

Emergency management is also standing by, they're expecting the storm to make most of it's impact on Sunday.

“This is going to be storm of duration. We'll be getting winds for up to 36 hours, that's something you need to go ahead and secure your outdoor items and make sure you're prepared for the long duration of these winds,” said Christy Saunders, with Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management.

Though boaters on the Pasquotank River have seen their fair share of hurricanes, they said they never underestimate the power of a storm.

“They call it "Frankenstorm,” I have no idea what to expect, I wish I did,” said boater Charles Jolley.

Emergency officials are expecting to see N.C. get hit heaviest by Sandy's wind and rain throughout the day on Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a high wind warning for Pasquotank and Camden Counties from 8:00 a.m. Sunday to 8:00 p.m. Monday. 

A flood watch is in effect for Pasquotank and Camden counties beginning Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. and continuing until Monday morning.

Officials recommend to avoid driving during periods of high wind and heavy rain and not driving vehicles into areas where the water covers the roadway.

Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management are urging all citizens to complete preparedness actions and ensure they take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.
