FALLSTON, N.C. — Cleveland County school officials are shutting down a high school football stadium after an apparent prank.

Last week, several goats were found grazing near the Burns High School stadium.
 
Alisa Leonard, the Cleveland County Health Department Director of Nursing says school officials were advised Thursday to close the stadium for six months to avoid possible E. coli contamination.

“That is a recommendation of the CDC. In that if there is a petting zoo and there's animals and there is feces that the area is open to the public it would be unavailable for use by the public for six months,” said Leonard.

Leonard said there have been no reports of human illness. The stadium closure will impact home football games, soccer matches, and track meets.
