MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — Former Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services Director Mary Wilson left the Government Center Wednesday night, after a 12 hour termination appeal hearing.

Wilson was fired in September by County Manager Harry Jones and filed an appeal to be heard by a special panel in an attempt to get her job back. Jones said Wilson's termination decision came after multiple meetings with the county's executive team.

However Wilson said last month her termination was unfair and there was not enough documentation to substantiate the allegations made against her.

"I am just hoping for a fair process, and so I appreciate the opportunity to go through the appeal and I look forward to the results of a very fair process,” said Wilson.

The panel has three days to make a recommendation. It is then up to county manager to determine whether to reinstate Wilson.
