RALEIGH -- More than 965,000 people made it out to the NC State Fair this year, which is the third highest attendance in event history. But organizers believe they fell just shy of the million mark because of a few days of uneasy weather.
On Monday the breakdown process was underway for the nearly 500 food and commercial vendors who took part in the annual event, which is an economic generator for the businesses and the state fairgrounds.
"Many of the vendors that we have here are from North Carolina, so they take their earnings from here and they go back to their communities across the state," said Brian Long with the NC State Fair. "And then you have vendors from other parts of the country too, and they're doing the same thing."
Long says planning for next year's state fair has already begun. Many vendors are now heading to Wilmington for the Cape Fear Fair & Expo, one of the last events of its kind this season.
