E. coli cases linked to Cleveland County Fair increase to 61

CHARLOTTE -- The number of people infected with E. coli in the Charlotte region has now grown to 61. Health officials say 38 children and 23 adults have now been affected.

Eight counties are included in the outbreak: 33 people in Cleveland County, 11 in Gaston County, 10 in Lincoln County, one in Catawba County, one in Mecklenburg County, two in Union County, two in York County, South Carolina and one in Cherokee County. Eleven of these people have been hospitalized and one child has died from the infection in Gaston County.
