CHARLOTTE – An employee of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte is on administrative leave.

Last month, officers charged Shannon Merz with taking indecent liberties with a child and first-degree sex offense. The YMCA reports the incident did not happen at the Morrison YMCA in Ballantyne where Merz worked.

A police report said the case was referred by the DSS. The victim is now 14-years-old and is not related to Merz. The report said the allegations are from November of 2011.

In a statement the Y said:

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte takes very seriously the safety and well being of its members, staff and program participants. All employees must pass a thorough background check and undergo drug testing prior to employment.

Merz will stay on administrative leave until the legal matter is resolved.
