The centers for disease control have now confirmed more than 90 cases of a rare fungal meningitis that has been linked to a steroid commonly used to ease back pain.
Seven people have died in the outbreak which has spread across nine states, including North Carolina.
The steroid linked to the outbreak has been recalled and health officials are scrambling to notify anyone who may have received an injection of it.
At least two people in North Carolina have been diagnosed with the meningitis associated with the recalled steroid.
