US unemployment rate falls to 7.8 percent in September

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Labor Department reported Friday that the nation's unemployment rate for September fell to 7.8 percent. That's the lowest since January of 2009.
Economists expected the rate to increase to 8.2 percent. Hiring for the month also rose.
North Carolina's unemployment rate is 9.7 percent.
