CHARLOTTE--The annual Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' JROTC global studies book study program is underway.

It gives students an understanding of how leaders around the world work together.

At the kick-off ceremony, the students heard from author Jack Uldrich.

Uldrich has written several books on emerging technologies, innovation and leadership.

He spoke to the cadets about the importance of understanding today's global transformation.

"What they don't appreciate is how fast the world around us is changing. Education, healthcare, energy, transportation; all of these fields are about to undergo radical transformation. And in order to help navigate all of this change, we need leaders who are thinking about it today," said Uldrich.

As part of the book study program, the cadets will read Uldrich's book and visit the George C. Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Virginia.
