CHARLOTTE – The suspect in a hit-and-run accident last weekend in east Charlotte is now charged with murder after the death of the victim.

Police say Stefano Jett hit 45-year-old John Evans on West Sugar Creek Road near Interstate 85 around midnight last Sunday. Evans died Saturday morning.

Investigators say Jett also side-swiped another vehicle while making his getaway. The car used in the hit-and-run was discovered Sunday in a pond on Phil O'Neil Drive.

Jett faces several charges, including murder and felony hit-and-run.
