CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte City Manager Curt Walton announced his retirement Friday morning. He has served as the city manager since June 2007.
Before that, Walton served as assistant city manager and the deputy city manager for internal operations from 2002 to 2007. According to the city's website, Walton oversaw special projects such as the Charlotte Bobcats Arena and development of CharMeck 311, the city and Mecklenburg County’s 24-hour customer service line.
"He has played a role in transforming Charlotte from the little city that could into the big city that did," said Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx follwing Walton's announcement.
Walton was the 14th city manager of Charlotte.
There's no word on when the search for a new manager will begin.
