WINSTON-SALEM—Sen. Kay Hagan invited North Carolina students to find out more about military service academies.

Every year, the senator hosts "Academy Day."

Seventh through 12th graders met on Saturday with representatives from the service academies, to get more information about the nomination process.

To apply, they need a nomination from a member of Congress.

Organizers said each year, they see more interest.

"Seeing the numbers of people and the caliber of applicants each year is just very impressive. I've been doing this for six or seven years now and it just keeps getting better and better,” said Naval Academy area coordinator Trey Alexander.

Representatives from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Military and Naval Academy were there to speak with interested students.
