RALEIGH--State Capitol Police Chief Scott Hunter passed away on Friday after a long illness.
Hunter took over the position in 2003 following 18-years with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
As chief, Hunter oversaw the department's move in 2009 from the Department of Administration to what is now the Department of Public Safety.
Hunter is survived by his wife and three children and he was 49-years- old.
