CHARLOTTE—The remaining three of five suspects charged with shooting and killing an East Mecklenburg teen made their first court appearances Wednesday.
16-year-old Dedric McKenzie, 17-year-old Sheldon Gregory and 18-year-old Samuel Walker are charged with the first-degree murder of 17-year-old KC Curry. Friends and family members came to the courthouse to show their support, but would not comment about the case.
16-year-old Bruck fekadu and 19-year-old Jeremy Pate appeared in court Tuesday for their involvement.
According to search warrants, the suspects told police Dedric McKenzie was the shooter and that they saw him with a gun after the shooting. The records also show Fekadu destroyed the clothing he wore that night because it was stained with blood.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they shot and killed Curry Sunday night because they believed he disrespected them in front of a girl the previous night.
Four of the teenagers are being held on $1 million bond. One suspect was denied bond.
The victim's mother, Benita Turner, said she was supposed to be married this Saturday. Her son was going to be one of the groomsmen. The ceremony is on-hold as they make funeral arrangements in Alabama where he will be laid to rest.
