Missing woman killed in I-85 accident involving two tractor-trailers

CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a woman was killed in an overnight wreck that shut down all southbound lanes I-85. Shirley Pharr, 76, who was last seen leaving her home on Dawnshire Avenue, was reported missing Tuesday night. She suffered from the early stages of dementia.

Police say she walking along the highway between Glenwood and Freedom drives when she was hit by two tractor-trailers.

The road re-opened around 6 a.m. Wednesday. Police aren't sure yet how Pharr got onto the highway.
