Visitor's Bureau says NHRA weekend may bring in twice as much revenue as DNC

CONCORD--Engines aren't the only things fired up during the NHRA weekend at zMAX Dragway. Businesses count on the annual event to boost revenue.
"This is a nice impact, a nice exposure because these are some of the most loyal sports fans that you'll fine,” said Cabarrus County Convention and Visitor's Bureau spokesman, John Agresti. “They'll travel around from event to event.
Race fanatic Omega Harris is that loyal, he travels from Georgia every year for the event. He arrives Friday and leaves Monday, spending money along the way.
"I pull back,” said Omega Harris. “I save for it, trips like this."
It's fans like Harris who help contribute to the estimated $12 million dollar boost from the race. The Cabarrus County Convention and Visitor's Bureau says the annual event should bring in twice as much revenue as the Democratic National Convention.
"There's a lot of spending that went in that a lot of people don't see on the surface, “ added Agresti about the DNC impact. “They just see hotels and restaurants but it was a lot of other businesses here that saw an impact."
Fans traveled from 42 states, nearly 900 cities, and even 10 countries for the weekend's events.
