CHARLOTTE--Police are investigating two separate incidents of pedestrians hit by vehicles Saturday night.

One of the victims is dead and the other suffered minor injuries.

Police said a man was crossing South Tryon Street, not at a crosswalk or intersection, when he was hit and killed by a passing car.

That driver immediately pulled over and called 911 to report the incident, but once medic arrived onscene, the man was already dead.

The accident happened in the 3600 block of South Tryon Street around 9:45 p.m.

The victim was 72-year-old Fredger Allen Bratton.

Officials said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident.

The driver of that vehicle is uninjured.

Also on Saturday at around 8:30 p.m. another man was hit by a car.

That accident happened at Central Avenue and the Plaza.

Authorities said the victim was drunk and it was not the first time he has been hit.

Anyone who has any information about these incidents is asked to call the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at (704) 432-2169.
