CHARLOTTE – North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan kicked off Thursday's podium speakers at the Democratic National Convention.

She touted the strengths of the state and praised President Obama for having the right plan to move North Carolina and the nation forward.

“The eyes of the nation are on North Carolina tonight, and that's fitting because the same values that have made North Carolina great – hard work, community, commitment to a vibrant middle class – are the values that are going to keep our country on the right track for generations to come,” Hagan said.

Hagan also said she does not want a president who slashes education or cuts back on research and development.
