WILSON, N.C. -- Some of Wilson's most popular works of art have gotten a makeover. Vollis Simpson's whirligigs are in the process of being restored before they're moved into a park downtown.

Workers and volunteers say fixing up the whirligigs has been been a long and tedious process, but it's worth it.

"We've finished a few small ones and made a lot of progress on the large ones and to just see them turn in the wind -- the noise they make -- it's just fun,” said Wilson resident Joe Justice.

Project managers hope to begin construction on the park in March. they hope to have it open by November of next year.
