CHARLOTTE--With the Democratic National Convention coming to town, officials with Charlotte in 2012 called on several local production companies to produce a total of 30 short videos.

All together the videos are known as Carolina Stories.

"We have the chance to show the world what we're all about, to tell our story in a way that will capture a lot of attention." Tracy Russ with Charlotte in 2012.

Charlotte in 2012 wanted the features to be high quality. However they left much of the subject matter to the producers.

"We wanted these to be, first of all, interesting and compelling stories on their own, not encyclopedic; but to really focus on the people that are making  things happen," said Russ.

One of the production teams chosen to participate was Bread & Butter Pictures, which was already working on its own Charlotte video project.

"Charlotte has a bit of a visual identity crisis," said Scott Lazes with Bread & Butter Pictures.

The Carolina Stories project was seen as a way to help people get to know the Queen City.

"I don't know that we've been misunderstood, as much as we are an unknown commodity to so many people in the nation and throughout the world," said Russ.

The desire is that delegates, visiting media and others will see the Carolina Stories and better understand Charlotte and its residents. There is also the hope though that the videos will have a life beyond the DNC.
