Three arrested during protester march through uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Several hundred protestors marched through uptown Charlotte Tuesday criticizing President Obama for everything from his political donations to unmanned drone strikes on terrorists in the Middle East.
Three people were arrested during the protests: Paul Davis, Dylan Wrynn and John Penley. Some of the charges include disorderly conduct and breaching a police line and barricade.
"We think that is the problem or the biggest potential thing facing our country right now and you're not hearing anything from either party about it," said protester John Penley.
The march eventually stopped at Stonewall and Caldwell streets in front of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. About two dozen protestors sat down in the middle of the intersection where police blocked their path. Some demonstrators yelled profanity and racial slurs at the officers.
"We're going to go as far as we can get, sit down and then ask for a meeting with a member of the Democratic Party," said Penley.
Police used bicycles and dirtbikes to corral the crowd. Officers took some people into custody after the shouting matches intensified, though there were no major skirmishes between the crowd and law enforcement .
"We're gonna march and see what happens," said Penley. "If they want to arrest some Vietnam vets and lock us up down here for trying to express our problems."
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe looked on and said officers would let the group stay as long as the demonstration was peaceful.
"All we're doing is just monitoring this and we're just in a holding pattern right now," he said.
