CHARLOTTE--Thousands were estimated to have attended a pre-DNC worship service at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater Sunday.

Not in protest, but to pray.

"To just cry out before the Lord, I think it's important that as Christians and as brothers and sisters in Christ that we do that together," said attendee Natasha McClellen.

About 200 volunteers came together to host almost 100 churches from the across the state at the Charlotte 7:14 event.

"Charlotte 7:14 gets its name from second Chronicals chapter 7 verse 14 out of the Bible," said David Benham, who organized the event. He said the verse calls for people to come together peacefully and pray for better times ahead.

"To turn from our wicked ways to seek the face of God and to seek restoration in our city and in our nation," said Benham.

And Benham said there's no room for politics here. All are welcome regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.

"We know that our country is in trouble in a lot of ways and until we return to the Lord and to his authority and to his ways that's the answer that we need," said attendee Sandy Berg.

Praying not just for Charlotte during the week ahead, but for our nation's leaders.

"Whoever comes into office, whoever is in office now. We may not agree with what they believe in or what they do but they're our authority and God asks us to pray for them," said McClellen.

Organizers said none of the churches present at the service are planning to have a presence in uptown Charlotte during the convention.
