CHARLOTTE — One of the fastest growing industries in Charlotte is brewing up some new business.

This week, another beer brewery is set to open up doors, tapping a fast-growing market. Some see the growth of this industry as a sign of the ever diversifying economy of the Charlotte region.

Chris Murphy and Chris Harper traded in their desk jobs at a bank for a tap. The co-workers turned friends decided to turn something they did for fun into a business.

"Home brewing is a hobby that we both enjoyed, so it started in my kitchen right there on the stove," said co-owner Triple C Brewery Chris Murphy.

Over time Murphy's wife, Christina, joined the team and Triple C was created.

"It took about a year of home brewing for us for us to really talk about it and decide that this is really what we wanted to do," said Murphy.

After lots of time and a significant investment, the Triple C brewery is about to open for business in Southend.

"It means everything. Today is the day we've been waiting for. It's a year and a half in the making," said Murphy.

Triple C will become the seventh brewery to open in Charlotte in a fast-growing niche market.

"People look at Charlotte and think we're all about banking but actually we have a very diverse economy," said Erin Watkins with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

Watkins sees the growing craft beer market as a sign of the diversification of the overall economy.

"It's a new day. I think you're seeing a demographic switch. A transition with the transplant moving here. Charlotte is becoming a new city of the South," said Watkins.

For Triple C, that started Tuesday with the delivery of its first beer, the Light Rail Pale Ale, one stop down the actual Lynx rail line to its first customer.
