CHARLOTTE — Protesters marched in front of Duke Energy's corporate headquarters in uptown Charlotte to show their disapproval of what they call the relationship between Duke and the Democratic National Convention.
Greenpeace and the March on Wall Street South Coalition say Duke should not be involved in funding the convention.
"We're going to call on the DNC not to accept corporate dollars and actually make this a people's convention. We're also upset about the relationship between Duke energy and the DNC”, said protester Monica Embrey.
A Duke Energy spokesperson said the company was very aggressive in the effort to bring the convention to Charlotte because it is a great showcase for the city on an international stage. Also Duke said the host committee can take money from corporations based on rules that went into effect for the convention.
