CONCORD -- A man is now behind bars after authorities say he tried to break into the home of a woman who had a restraining order against him. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office says the woman who owned the home on Sandusky Boulevard shot 42-year-old John Ballew last month as he was trying to break in and he then fled on a bicycle.

Deputies located Ballew and took him to the hospital. They say he went to the home with the intention to possibly cause harm to the woman. Ballew was treated for gunshot wounds to the arm and shoulder.

He is now charged with attempted first-degree burglary and possession of marijuana. A hearing has also been scheduled on the restraining order violation.
