RALEIGH—More details have been released about the state mental health director who died while riding his bike on a North Raleigh road.

Steven Jordan was heading north on Louisburg Road Wednesday when he collided with an unloaded logging truck. The news has left a community mourning.

"Now I find out about this and it just breaks your heart.  It devastates the community," said resident David Rodgers.

Jordan's former colleagues are also devastated by the news.  They say the impact he had on the mental health field was lasting.

"He was very much appreciated for all that he worked for," said Dr. Mike Lancaster.

According to the people that knew him best, Jordan made strides for people with developmental disabilities and substance abuse issues and was a true champion for spreading awareness across the state.

"He was a very important contributor to the field both as a professional provider, but also as a administrator and policy maker," said Lancaster.

As for what his colleagues will miss the most, they say his personality and charisma will always be remembered.

"His sense of humor, his ability to walk out of every meeting with a smile on his face, and make everyone feel appreciated. He will be sorely missed in all aspects of what he was doing both as a provider and a leader for policy development," said Lancaster.

Jordan is survived by his wife and three sons.  Raleigh police will talk to the District Attorney's office about possible charges.
