HUNTERSVILLE -- Coming off an emotional and heroic weekend, Amanda Harris and her 8-year-old daughter, Harleigh, are still trying to wrap their heads around a very close call.

"He was definitely ... he was gone,” said Amanda Harris, holding her daughter close.

A party had just wrapped up at the Tanners Creek neighborhood pool Saturday afternoon, but the hot June sun kept plenty of families in the water. Just after 4 p.m., Harleigh spotted a little boy hovering near the drain and knew something was wrong.

"I went up to my mom and screamed, 'Momma, Momma there's a little boy,'" she exclaimed.

Acting on a mother's instinct, Amanda jumped in the pool to bring 7-year-old Tyqual Seaburn to the surface.

"When I saw his face, I knew it was serious and I jumped in and just wanted to get him out of that water and perform CPR," she said.

Two teenage life guards joined the effort, one calling 911, the other continuing with CPR for several minutes on the unresponsive child. He eventually regained consciousness and was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center.

“You saved a life,” Amanda said to Harleigh, to which she replied, “Yay!”

It was another reason to hold her daughter just a bit tighter.

"Watch your children because that really made me really know how precious life is," Harris said.

At last check, Seaborn was out of intensive care but still in the hospital. Once the 7-year-old is out of the woods both families hope to get together.
