CHARLOTTE -- A driver is charged with a deadly wreck in south Charlotte. Rea Road near Colony Road was shut down for nearly eight hours Thursday.
It all started just after 5 p.m. Thursday when Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say an SUV driven by Barry Davis swerved into the path of a dump truck near Colony Road just north of Pineville-Matthews Road.
The impact caused the truck to veer into another lane, slamming head-on into a sedan killing the driver of that car, 47-year-old Edward Miller. Davis is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
Police say speed and alcohol were not factors in the wreck but exactly what caused Davis to hit the truck is still not clear.
