Police search for gunmen after Mt. Airy store clerk fatally shot

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. – A Mt. Airy man is dead and police are searching for the gunmen they believe shot him during an armed robbery.

Investigators say it happened around 11:50 p.m. Friday at Eddie's Zip Food Store on North Andy Griffith Parkway.

The two suspects reportedly walked into the store and shot Donald Claude Arnder with an assault-style rifle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
