CHARLOTTE -- After months of planning and preparation, a mechanical issue forced the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce to cancel its inter-city visit to London. Officials say their flight was canceled Sunday morning, giving travelers no viable option other than to scrap the trip all together.
The Chamber scheduled the trip to learn about London's preparations for the upcoming summer Olympics and how the city will benefit from the major event long term. Chamber leaders hoped to apply some of those lessons to Charlotte with regards to September's Democratic National Convention.
"We regret the inconvenience this has caused all participants on both sides of the Atlantic and the lost opportunity to learn from the penultimate global city of London," Chamber President Bob Morgan said in a statement. "We are grateful that all are safe."
We're told all city and county elected officials and staff will be fully reimbursed for the trip. This would have been the Chamber's first international travel since 1992.
