RALEIGH -- There were tense moments at RDU Airport Sunday morning where an American Airlines jet with nearly 140 people on board had to make an emergency landing.

Airport officials say flight 1645 was heading from RDU to O'Hare Airport in Chicago when oil started leaking from the engine, causing control problems for the pilot. They say the pilot turned around over central North Carolina and was able to land the plane safely back at RDU on the second attempt.
