WILMINGTON -- Two months ago, the UNCW baseball team was reeling after starting the season 3-9. Since mid-March, the Seahawks compiled a 30-10 record, which includes a 22-5 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association.

"We started off slow, but we knew we could play much better than that. It feels good to play to our ability and play well," said Michael Bass, a second basemen for the UNCW baseball team.

Heading into this weekend's matchup with George Mason, the Seahawks have already wrapped up the CAA's top seed and a first round bye.

"It's a great feeling, but you don't getting anything for having the best record in the regular season. We want to go on to a NCAA regional and hang a banner in the outfield," said Andrew Cain, an outfielder.

Even though there is nothing at stake in conference, this weekend's matchup with the Patriots is important for the Seahawks. The two teams may meet again next Thursday in next week's conference tournament.

"It's awfully difficult to beat a team to win four games against a club, but I like our chances," said Mark Scalf, the Seahawk's head coach.

The regular season ending series with George Mason begins Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at UNCW's Brooks Field.
